For Home Based Business Entrepreneurs Who Hate Selling
For a home based business entrepreneur connecting with people to help create sales is everything. No matter how great YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE MAY BE without having people interested in it you are out of business.?It's not rocket science to conclude that this needs to be a top priority.
If we break it down a bit further we can identify two primary elements in this process.
The first element involves finding prospects/customers/clients. The second element and a much smaller portion of your time - should be spent on people who can otherwise help your business grow.
For example; one tip that has helped a good number of savvy entrepreneurs is to volunteer at a local charity. Aside from the benefits of simply giving back to your community, it can often put you in the presence of people who are movers and shakers as well as successful business people so you can build relationships.
Building relationships has always been of major importance in a home based business and that has never been truer than today. Right now there is a major trend happening on the Internet that is moving away from traditional marketing methods and moving quickly into a strategy of social interactions known as 'Web 2.0' .
That leads us to a critical point selling. People hate to sell and they hate to be sold. We have also experienced poor salesmanship more frequently than good salesmanship.
Having said that we also need to recognize this fact: 'Nothing happens till something is sold'. The fact is that salespeople are among the most noble professions of all. Why?
Because when something is sold a whole series of things happen that engage many, many people who make their lives supporting the achievements of the salesperson.
If the product isn't sold the people working in the factory have no work, the warehouses & warehouse personal aren't needed, the delivery people aren't needed, secretaries, etc, etc.
I have more good news and some news you may not want to see.
What you as a new home based business entrepreneur may not want to know is that 'everything is sales'. Whether you're discussing where to eat tonight with your spouse or negotiating with your kid to clean up their room.
Taken a step further building ANY business requires you to change your mindset about what sales means and its importance to your success.
The good news is that the 'old school' methods of cornering your prospect and twisting their arm simply don't work anymore. People are to savvy and even if you succeeded your short term gain would almost guarantee your long term failure.
The new age of 'selling' has far more to do with offering value to people up front and educating them as opposed to shoving something down their throat. Think of the selling process as a 'slow burn' process and build your strategies around that.
Bottom line is if you genuinely like helping people and you believe in the product or service you provide then your job is to simply identify your target market and give them the opportunity to use your product.
This opportunity is presented in the form of offering information on benefits that suit their particular needs and seeing to it that they neither buy too little or too much.
Position yourself as a Trusted Adviser instead of as 'salesperson' and you'll begin to develop the type of relationships that spawn long term clients and frequent referrals.
At that point 'sales techniques' (shenanigans) aren't even necessary. Most people would happily spend a little more if they knew your intention was in their best interest. Trust nowadays is something that is in short supply, so you have a genuine opportunity to stand out from the crowd by adopting this philosophy.
As an entrepreneur the connecting element of your home based business offers tremendous opportunities to expand your business, your skills, and your overall satisfaction with your business.?
